Pakistan’s consulate aims to host a major exhibition in Dubai early next year in collaboration with the country’s business community to promote its products, a senior official said.
“Let us host a big event around March 23, which is National Day, next year and the consulate will help the community to organise this event. In the past seven months, we hosted three mega events including the National Day event, Mango Festival and Film Festival. We have the capability to host such events,” said Ahmed Amjad Ali, Consul-General at the Pakistan Consulate in Dubai.
He suggested that the Pakistan Business Council (PBC) should form a consortium to bid for Pakistan’s pavilion at Dubai’s Global Village.
“The Pakistan pavilion at Global Village is acquired by a Syrian company. This year’s tender has already been awarded but Pakistani businesses can form a consortium next year and take part in the bidding for the pavilion,” the consul-general said while addressing the Pakistani business fraternity in Dubai recently.
Since it is a six-month long event, we can take a lot of businesses with us in this effort and consulate will also assist whatever way possible. This year, Dh12 billion was the bid for the Pakistan pavilion.”
The next edition of Global Village will run from October 29 to April 4, 2020.
The event was organised by the council in honour of Dr Nasir Khan, the outgoing commercial counsellor at the Pakistani consulate.
The consul-general praised the PBC’s role for community services but called for increasing presence in the Northern Emirates to serve the community better.
PBC president Iqbal Dawood welcomed the ideas floated by the consul-general; the council will discuss them with the consulate for further details following consultation with the board members.
