A significant investment in the facilities at Burghley Park Cricket Club has been rewarded with the staging of a two-day county second team game.
Leicestershire 2nds will be taking on an Indian touring side at Burghley Park on Monday and Tuesday next week (10.30am start).
This represents a huge step forward for the Stamford club, having invested heavily in their playing surface over the last two years.
And chairman Simon Stephenson is delighted that the hard work is bearing fruit as the ground is now becoming recognised as one of the best pitches in the county.
He said: “Burghley Park Cricket Club is delighted to be hosting the Leicestershire Second XI against an Indian touring side on September 16 and 17.
“We have made a significant investment over the last two years to improve our playing facilities under the expert guidance of our head groundsman, Tony Hinchliffe.
“We are pleased that the quality of our pitch has now been recognised by Leicestershire County Cricket Club.
“We are making great progress at Burghley Park CC, both on and off the pitch with a growing member base in both the senior and junior sections and a Sunday side who are currently top of Rutland League Division Two.”
Head groundsman Hinchcliffe added: “In 2017, I was approached by Burghley Park Cricket Club’s ambitious chairman Simon Stephenson requesting my help to deliver a programme that would transform the ground to become one of the best cricket pitches in the county.
“Working in partnership with Burghley Park Golf Club and only two years into the five-year improvement programme, it’s beyond our wildest expectation to host this game and we look forward to many more regular recurring fixtures.”
The format of the match is three two-hour sessions (10.30am-12.30pm, 1.10pm-3.10pm and 3.30-5.30pm) with no over restrictions.
Spectators are encouraged and welcomed to come down and watch the high-class cricket.
