HUM TV, one of the most prestigious and well-known channels in Pakistan, has been growing in international popularity. This year the network hosted the 7th Hum Awards in Houston, the first time the ceremony has been held in the United States.
“This award was basically for the projection of softer, more inspiring and appealing image of Pakistan around the world,” said Fawad Azeem, head of HUM TV international operations in North America.
The collaborative effort of HUM to immerse the Pakistani and American community together was one of the reasons the network decided to bring Hum Awards to Houston. The growing diversity was a contributing factor.
“We’re amazed to see the response of the entire North America towards these awards,” said Duraid Qureshi, CEO of HUM Network to abc13. “The decision of being in Houston is right.”
A team of over 100 people included volunteers from the University of Houston’s Pakistan Student Association, interns from University of St. Thomas, local Houston fashion bloggers and the networks’ own professional production team helped put together one of Pakistan’s biggest award show.
“HUM Awards gave us students a chance to feel connected to Pakistani culture,” said Maria Usmani, President of Pakistan Association at the University of Houston. “Pakistani television industry shining in here just shows how Houston embraces diversity.”
“The love of 100,000 plus Pakistani’s in Houston attracted the HUM Awards here,” said Azeem. “We used this opportunity to crystallize the image of Pakistan as a country of immense beauty, rich culture, fun loving, joyful people with big hearts who also love to celebrate life with peace, music and dances.”
