The boys team of Pinegrove School, Dharampur, outplayed Lawrence School, Sanawar, in the opening match of the first Invitational U-13 Cricket Tournament being played on the school campus. Six teams of residential schools from across the country are competing for the title. The tournament is being played on the basis of league-cum-knockout T-20 format. The opening ceremony of the tournament was graced by Major General TPS Waraich (VSM), director, YPS, Mohali. The host team won the toss and elected to bat. They put up a score of 158 runs on board at the loss of two wickets. Chasing the target, Lawrence School were all out at 90. Harshit of Pinegrove was declared player of the match. In another match played between Mayo College, Ajmer, and APS, Dagshai, APS won the toss and elected to bat first. They scored 72 runs at the loss of five wickets in the allotted over. Mayo achieved the target in just 6.3 overs at the loss of two wickets. Aahaan Aggarwal of Mayo was declared player of the match. In back-to-back matches played between Welham boys and Pinegrove School, Welham boys put up 67 runs at the loss of five wickets. The host team achieved the target in just 6.3 overs by losing two wickets. Yerik Gauri of Pinegrove walked away with the player of the match award. In the last match of the day played between Mayo College and PPS Nabha, Mayo won the toss and chose to bat. They put up 60 runs at the loss of two wickets. PPS, Nabha, achieved the target in 8.3 overs at the loss of two wickets. Mantaj Singh of the winning side was declared player of the match.
ABVP to donate clothes, books
The Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) unit of the ABVP will observe the death anniversary of its leader Sunil Upadhyaya by running a clothes and book bank. Activists will collect the used clothes and books and distribute those among the needy. Such programmes are organised in memory of Upadhyaya every year in November. President, of the HPU unit, ABVP, Vishal Verma said people from all walks could join the initiative.
Raising Day of Bharat Scouts & Guides
On the Raising Day of Bharat Scouts and Guides, a district-level programme was organised at the Una municipal park, where Deputy Commissioner Sandeep Kumar hoisted the flag of the organisation. He said the objective of scouting was to create a spirit of togetherness in society. He hailed the contribution of the volunteers towards fostering moral values, discipline and confidence among members of the civil society, particularly children. District coordinator of the organisation Nirmal Sharma was also present.
Awareness rally by NSS unit
The NSS unit of Government School, Rehan (Nurpur), organised an awareness rally in the local market and adjoining villages. Awareness on sanitation and ills of drug addiction was created. They also spread the message of ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Parao’. The rally was organised under the guidance of Kulbeer Pathania. Principal Kusum Guleria appreciated the efforts of the NSS unit and teachers.
Declamation contest at college
In the series of activities being organised by the Sutlej Jal Vidyut Nigam (SJVN) to mark the vigilance week, declamation contests were held at teh Shivalik Institute of Nursing College and Government Degree College, Sanjauli. AK Singh and DP Kaushal, general manager, SJVN were the chief guests on the occasion. Principal, Shivalik Nursing College, Shama Lohumi, principal, Government College, Sanjauli, CB Mehta and senior manager (Rajbhasha), SJVN, Mridula Srivastav and Narendra Kumar Mankotia were also present. Lakshu and Anchal won a cash prize of Rs 6,000, Itika and Diksha Thakur Rs 5,000 and Anamika and Akshay Singta Rs 4,000. Consolation prizes of Rs 1,500 each were also given to participants.
