With the cricket world eager to bid goodbye to a year which was indeed a roller coaster ride for all fans and followers of the gentlemen’s game, Cricket Australia (CA) decided to reveal their Test XI of the decade on Monday. Coming to a surprise for many and especially for the fans of the Men In Blue, only one Indian player made it to CA’s Test XI of the decade. Run Machine Virat Kohli was picked as the only Indian cricketer worthy enough to headline CA’s elite fantasy Test eleven.
Taking cognizance of the statistics and game-changing performances of the players in the past 10 years, the CA named their top picks in one star-studded lineup – calling it their Test XI of the last decade. From the past to the present, the lineup of the stalwarts comprises with players that are undoubtedly the flag bearers of the oldest format for their respective nations.
Though the last decade has had a lasting impression from former greats including the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman and Rahul Dravid, the CA still opted to snub the past of the Indian cricket by only adding the current best batsman in the world across all formats to their Test eleven. Kohli was not only inducted to the elite eleven as your ordinary premier batsman but the Indian run-machine was named the leader of CA’s Test XI of the decade.
As per the newly released CA Test XI of the decade, Former England skipper Alastair Cook has been paired with Australian southpaw David Warner to open the innings. For the number three position, CA handpicked New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson followed by Steve Smith who was handed the No. four batting position.
Number five was given to CA skipper Kohli while the sixth batting slot was awarded to former South African great AB de Villiers. Ben Stokes was picked as the only all-rounder for CA’s team of the decade. Dale Steyn, Stuart Broad, Nathan Lyon and James Anderson were named to spearhead the bowling department.
